/ Project presentation

I'm learning to protect myself from sexual violence is a prevention book for children, designed as a tool for protection, understanding and dialogue. It is aimed at both children and the adults who work with them: parents, teachers, health, social and education professionals.

Using simple, respectful words adapted to children's ages, the book tackles essential notions: the body, emotions, intimacy, consent and the fundamental rights of the child. Translated into 15 languages, it has been designed to be accessible to as many people as possible, whatever their cultural background or country.

/ Challenges

Sexual violence against children remains largely under-reported and is often shrouded in silence, confusion and taboo. One of the main challenges of prevention is to give children clear points of reference, before a situation arises, without frightening them or making them take responsibility in place of adults.
This book responds to a central need: to help children distinguish affection from seduction, authorized gestures from forbidden ones, including when these situations involve close or trusted people. It also addresses the risks associated with the Internet, manipulation and exposure to sexual content, with concrete, easy-to-understand guidelines.

/ Objectives

The aim of I'm learning to protect myself from sexual violence is to strengthen children's ability to protect themselves and express themselves, by helping them recognize what makes them uncomfortable, listen to their feelings, say no and ask for help.
