/ Project presentation

Words for understanding is a collection of 20 children's books, available in seven languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese).

Each book addresses a difficult or sensitive theme — such as death, violence, illness, separation or disability — through a deliberately simple and reassuring framework, in order to help children recognize, identify and express what they are feeling.

/ Challenges

When faced with difficult events or realities, children often lack the words to express what they are experiencing internally. Explanations that are too long, abstract, or technical can reinforce confusion or silence, when what the child most needs is to have their emotions acknowledged.

The aim of this series is therefore not to overwhelm the child with words, but to offer them a safe space where all emotions are allowed to exist. By intentionally leaving room for silence, questions, and discussion, the books become tools for mediation between child and adult, without imposing a point of view, an interpretation, or a moral.

/ Objectives

The collection Words for understanding Its main objective is to develop the child's ability to verbalize their emotions, whatever they may be, and to recognize that their feelings are legitimate.
By putting simple words to fear, anger, sadness, confusion or emotional emptiness, books contribute to the development of emotional intelligence, the regulation of emotions and the strengthening of the feeling of inner security.
